Carrying On in New Hope (New Hope, PA) | Fall 2019
I have become quite a fan over the last few years of the New Hope, PA/Lambertville, NJ region. In this area of the country, “the city” refers to New York City, and Philadelphia is known as “downtown.” Regardless of where you are coming from, both towns offer so much to enjoy for a quick weekend getaway. There are definitely places to see—those quaint little shops and art galleries that line the streets, and other more commercial endeavors I might skip. In general, we love to take in both sides of the Delaware River, staying on one side and eating and cocktailing on the other. (This was only difficult one year…

The Jefferson (Washington, DC) | Fall 2019
Once again, business took my husband and me on the road. Or should I say on the rails? We tend to fly more often than not these days, but on this trip, we took an Amtrak train roundtrip to Washington, DC. We worked a little and played a little―what a fantastic time we had. For the business end of the trip, we stayed at a mammoth chain hotel. I tend to believe (with few exceptions), no matter how good the brand, 1,000+ rooms are impossible to manage impeccably―thus, high-quality service is virtually unattainable. This chain proved once again to be the rule, not the exception, sadly for us (and our…

Carrying On at the Seashore (Cape May, Margate, Atlantic City, NJ) | Summer 2019
Depending on where you live in the U.S., ocean towns are generally referred to as “the beach,” “the shore,” or “the coast”. In our house, my husband lovingly calls this region “the seashore” (a holdover from vacationing along the southern New Jersey coast since age three). We both now hilariously refer to this region as “the seashore.” Let’s Begin with the Positives Cape May, located on the southernmost tip of the New Jersey coast, is one of the oldest seaside resort areas in America and offers a charming combination of beach and history. Beautifully restored Victorian homes line the streets and the coast―some homes are privately owned, others are available…

Flying Private | Summer 2019
“It’s nice to have friends with toys,” my husband joked as we boarded our Lear Jet 45 for a recent business trip to Omaha. He’s been lucky over the years to have been invited on some amazing sportfishing boats as a guest. I suppose this was not new to him. But for me, this was a totally foreign experience, and if I’m honest, I felt a bit out of my league. Flying private? Though we enjoy the finer things in life, we rarely even fly first class. Enter our friend and colleague who joined two private jet companies in 2018: Privé Jets and Private Jet Services (PJS). Privé Jets has…

The Centurion Lounge | Fall 2018
I remember a time when visiting airline lounges was exclusive enough to feel special, but not so hard to get into that you had to have a ridiculous amount of miles or pay exorbitant fees to gain entry. Additionally, the front desk staff was amazingly helpful and the perks were many. We now know those days are sadly gone. Let’s Begin with the Positives Enter the Centurion Lounge—the best thing to happen to a handful of airports in a long time. Where many airport lounges have meager food selections (think cereal boxes and yogurt for breakfast) and an equally scant beverage offering (Bloody Mary’s are complimentary, all else is extra),…

Carrying On in Lambertville, NJ | Fall 2018
It has become something of an annual tradition for my husband and I to venture north for a Saturday/Sunday stay in the fall. Last year, we visited New Hope, PA. This year, we landed across the river in Lambertville, NJ. Let’s Begin with the Positives What an amazing time we had. I booked the Lambertville House which is right in the heart of town. It’s a lovely old hotel with the warmth of a B&B but with additional conveniences such as an onsite restaurant with a full bar. We had stayed at the Lambertville House years ago in the spring and at that time I chose a suite with a…
